Symptoms and Characteristics of Asperger’s Syndrome

People with AS can exhibit a variety of traits and symptoms that can actually mirror other disorders often times making the diagnosis difficult to obtain and sometimes misdiagnosed. Other diagnosis that have similar symptoms to AS are High Functioning Autism, PDD-NOS, ADD, or even ADHD.

These symptoms and character traits of AS can range from mild to severe from individual to individual. AS is currently defined as an Autism Spectrum Disorder, while other professionals say that AS is better classified as a Nonverbal Learning Disorder.

How Does The ISP Help Aspergers Syndrome?

Sensory processing problems are often a root cause for some of the symptoms associated with Asperger’s syndrome. Many times, parents of these children do not realize how important a role they play in their children’s social deficits, anxiety problems, sound, light, taste and smell sensitivities among other symptoms. Medication often times just acts as a band aid, masking the symptoms of AS and not addressing the root of the problem. The ISP is the only program that has the capability to address and change these at the brain level. By addressing working on the auditory, vestibular, and visual systems all simultaneously, we can change the way people process light, sound, motor issues, anxiety, sense of taste, sense of smell, and sense of touch, among other things. We do this by using the Oscillating motion bed, phototherapy, and modulated music, which works together to retrain the sensory processing center of the brain thereby making it a very foundational intervention.

Customized Intervention

Just as an IEP (individualized education plan) is designed to address the unique academic challenges of each individual, the ISP (Individualized Sensory Program)addresses the specific challenges/symptoms of each person with AS. Each person has frequencies that the brain cannot process in a balanced fashion. Our program addresses each frequency the individual has problems with and works to remediate those sensory deficiencies.

Results That Can Be Anticipated

Benefits include improvements in perception, understanding, and the ability to process and take in information. Other improvements include for the child with AS:
