A Multisensory Approach

The Individualized Sensory Program (ISP) combines elements of three well-established sensory interventions: vestibular stimulation, phototherapy and auditory training. Based on years of research and clinical work, each of these interventions is a complete and demonstratively effective therapy that has been used for various purposes by doctors and/or therapists.

Administering these three sensory modalities simultaneously greatly improves the efficacy of the intervention. Individuals with Sensory Integration Dysfunction often have difficulty functioning in our complex world. Completing simple tasks often can be challenging and require much effort. Since the body's sensory systems work together, the ability to multitask must be learned in an integrated sensory environment. Therefore, this combined approach stimulates the brainstem area to integrate sensory experience as a whole, which results in the ability to handle complex messages and environments.

We are very excited about the many positive results that the ISPSM has yielded in our clients. To date, 15% have noticed improvements during or immediately following their first session.

As one of our advisors states, “The deepest healing occurs when we use a multi-modality approach. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.”

How the Individualized Sensory Program Works

The Individualized Sensory Program addresses the vestibular, visual and auditory sensory systems using an oscillating motion bed, phototherapy and modulated music. During the initial phase, we utilize an integrated approach, both in terms of sensory systems and interventions; the subsequent phase involves the use of light. This program prompts the main sensory systems to learn or relearn subconscious reception, processing and integration. It does not address the symptoms of the problem, but rather the foundational brain processing and integration issues that cause these symptoms. For this reason, it may improve the effectiveness of other interventions, as well.

Customized Intervention

Just as an IEP (Individualized Education Program) is designed to specifically address the unique academic challenges of a child, The Sensory Center's ISP is designed to specifically address a child's unique sensory challenges. No two children are exactly alike. One size does not fit all. The Individualized Sensory Program respects these differences, and the different needs of each child, and provides a unique and completely customizable intervention that addresses them in profoundly beneficial ways.

Results That Can Be Anticipated

Benefits include improvement in perception, understanding and the ability to learn. Some other results that can be anticipated include improvements in:

Sensory integration provides a crucial foundation for later, more complex learning and behavior. When the sensory reception, processing and integration faculties are functioning properly, individuals are better able to achieve the emotional, cognitive and physical health that are part of a balanced life.
